Brim – Pct. 1 commissioner seat
WELLINGTON — As a candidate for Collingsworth County Commissioner Precinct 1, I would like to introduce myself to the citizens of Collingsworth County. I know many people of this awesome county but there are those of whom I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting.
To begin, I was born in Canyon, Texas in 1956 to Burl and Mary Brim. There were six children including myself in our family. My grandparents on my father’s side were John and Roxy Brim of Collingsworth County. My grandparents on my mother’s side were Randolph and Elizabeth Stanley of Washington State.
I went to school in Canyon until 1970 when my family moved to Ashland, Ore. I graduated from Ashland High School and Oregon College of Art. I also attended Southern Oregon State College which is also located in Ashland.
I moved to Phoenix, Ore., to train horses for a short time and then on to Orchards, Wash., where I trained under a professional horse trainer and gave riding lessons. I was hired by the Sierra Vista Ranch in Conlen, Texas, as a horse trainer and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. I was promoted to the rank of staff sergeant and trained in law enforcement while serving our country. I worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a Sergeant of Correctional Officers and continued to work there until I retired.
I am currently the Executive Director of the Wellington Opportunity Center and have enjoyed working with the children of Collingsworth County for the last six and a half years.
In my current position and throughout my work history, I have become experienced in managing people, handling general business matters, financial management/reporting and problem resolution. I will work with the existing commissioners to improve and gain funding for our county.
My main goal is to improve the financial status of the citizens and improve the existing road conditions in our county. I will work hard for the people of Collingsworth County, never forgetting that I work for you!
In summary, my education and work experience include graduating from Oregon College of Art, attending Southern Oregon State College and Amarillo College, serving as manager for Chateaulin Restaurant and deli manager for Safeway, training horses and riders at the Lucky D Stables and working for the Sierra Vista Ranch as a horse trainer.
In addition, my careers include veteran of U.S. Air Force/Law Enforcement/Air Cargo, sergeant of corrections officers for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice/Retired, dispatcher for Collingsworth County Sheriff’s Department and executive director of the Wellington Opportunity Center, Inc.
Your vote for me as Precinct 1 Collingsworth County Commissioner is greatly appreciated in the Nov. 3 election.
