Editor’s note: Although the proposed taxes for Collingsworth County are lower for 2020-2021, Chief Appraiser Dwight Bowen explained that property values across the county increased $14,000,000?? in an effort to get the values where they are supposed to be as required by the state within a certain time frame.
WELLINGTON — During a special meeting Aug. 24, Collingsworth County commissioners set the proposed tax rate for 2020-2021 at 0.69085, down from 0.71799 for 2019-2020 and the proposed farm to market/flood control tax rate at 0.192669, down from 0.20631 in 2019-2020.
The commissioners also approved the 2020-2021 proposed budget with no salary increases and the proposed farm to market/flood control budget.
In other business, the commissioners approved Judge James seek funds through 2020 HAVA Cares Act Sub-Grant and to seek funds through COVID-19 Cares Act Fund.
On Aug. 10, the commissioners met for a regular meeting.
In a split vote, the court approved the contract with Local Government Solutions for Justice of the Peace Office.WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? NEED MORE DETAIL. Commissioner Ellis and
Commissioner Campbell voted for. Commissioner Keller opposed. Motion passed.
The commissioners voted to approve the 100th District Chapter 59 Forfeiture and Seizure Budget for 2020-2021, the Pre-Trial Diversion Budget for 2020-2021, renewal of liability insurance with Texas Association of Counties and to approve the following claims: Collingsworth County, Consolidated Law Enforcement and Home Delivered Meals.
Also, the commissioners approved the request to order two CAT Model 150 motor graders through BuyBoard Purchasing Cooperative and to accept a bid from Shattuck National Bank at 2.25 percent, and to pay off note on Precinct 4 motor grader.
The court approved the following reports: Justice of the Peace, County Tax Collector, Sheriff, County-District Clerk, Chief Appraiser, County Treasurer, Precinct and Committee, Road
Administrator and Veterans Service Officer.
