WELLINGTON — Baptist, First Christian, Methodist and Trinity Fellowship youth gathered for the annual back-to-school cookout and “Water Wars,” Sept. 2 at Ellison Park.
“What a great turnout tonight for our back-to-school youth cookout,” Alicia Montgomery said. “We had around 68 kiddos and several awesome sponsors. Thank you all for helping. We are so, so blessed.”
First Christian youth leaders Alicia and Mark Montgomery team up every year with their son, Methodist youth director Brandon Montgomery and his wife Shay, to host the event.
First Baptist leaders Vance and Kelli Killian and Trinity Fellowship’s Jermaine and Ashly Cantu also helped sponsor the Wednesday night fun.
The crowd dined on grilled hot dogs prior to the lesson led by Mark Montgomery.
“I filled the water balloons and had them ready when dad finished his devotional,” Brandon Montgomery said. “I’ve been praying lately that our youth kids will stand firm in their faith at school and that they would love others with no strings attached.”
He shared that many of the youth are reading the Bible more at home and are loving spending time with God.
“It brings joy to my heart because I believe that’s where it all starts, in our quiet time at home,” Brandon added.
Youth meet at 4 p.m. Sunday and at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the fellowship hall of the Methodist Church. Participants must wear face masks. Brandon can be reached at 806-205-3712.
