CHILDRESS – When the State Fair of Texas was cancelled, Fletcher’s Original Corny Dogs and Golden Chick teamed up to save the crave Texans love.
“We are sad that the fair has been canceled, but we’re ecstatic to be able to spread the taste millions love,” Childress Golden Chick General Manager Shauntae Hughes said.
In its 187 restaurants in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana, Golden Chick sold 12,000 Corny Dogs a day during the first week, Hughes said. In Childress, they were planning to sell 40 or 50 a day, but they sold more than that.
“It’s better than we expected,” Hughes said.
Fletcher’s sells an average of 500,000 Corny Dogs during the annual fair season, according to a release from Golden Chick and Fletcher’s Original Corny Dogs. When news broke that the state fair would be cancelled, the Fletcher’s team wheeled out their catering trucks to create pop-ups throughout North Texas to keep the tradition alive.
“Fletcher’s Original Corny Dogs at the State Fair of Texas has been a time-honored tradition for millions of Texans since 1942,” said Aaron Fletcher on behalf of the Fletcher family. “When the news of its cancellation for 2020 hit, we knew that something had to be done to reach the hundreds of thousands of fans that would be disappointed they couldn’t get their hands on this time-honored favorite.”
Fletcher said they couldn’t be more excited to team up with Golden Chick to bring their world-famous Original Corny Dogs to not just DFW but all of Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. Golden Chick will serve Fletcher’s Original Corny Dogs in Childress and its restaurants until Sunday, Oct. 25, the release stated.
“Our team has been working alongside Fletcher’s to ensure we are providing the same hand-battered, made to order product that would have been offered at the State Fair of Texas,” said J. Sullivan, Golden Chick’s executive chef.
The Original Corny Dog is available for $5 and as a combo with golden fries and a drink for $7.99. The Childress Golden Chick, located at 1910 Ave. F NW, is open from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.
