WELLINGTON — The Wellington ISD Board of Education approved its 2020-2021 budget and tax rate during a special session Aug. 28.
The board approved tax rate at $.9454 cents per $100 property valuation for maintenance and operations.
The board also adopted the 2020-2021 school year budget for the General Fund and Cafeteria Fund by function as presented and amended the 2019-2020.
The board also approved keeping property and auto insurance for 2020-2021, with PEAT (Public Educators Association of Texas).
The board approved two-at large trustee positions for the Nov. 3 general election ballot. The board also approved a Joint Election and Election Services Agreement with Collingsworth County and with Childress County.
In the superintendent’s report, Superintendent Kurt Ashmore discussed enrollment numbers.
As of Aug. 24, enrollment total was 532. The campus breakdown:
- Elementary 260
- Junior high 134
- High school 138
On of the first day of school, Aug. 17, numbers were elementary 256, junior high 126 and high school 141 for a total of 523 students.
President Lynn Bartlett called the meeting to order at 12:05 p.m. with a quorum. Members present were Bartlett, Lance Kane, Gene Pena, Cody Phillips, Alison Strickland and Carly Ward. Board member Brad Bawcom was absent.
School personnel present were Ashmore, Dian Souder and Kellye Conner.
