Thelma Popwell Rogers, 94, of Wellington, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2020.
Private family graveside services took place Friday, September 4 at 11 a.m. in North Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Harry Stallings, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Arrangements were by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington.
She was born on February 21, 1926 in Vinson to Fulton Fuller and Iona Narcisia Carpenter Popwell. She graduated from Wellington High School in 1943 and married Oren Rogers on June 21, 1947 in Hollis, Okla. He died in 2008.
Thelma was a homemaker in more ways than one. While she and Oren lived in Midland and Freeport, they served as house parents for children’s homes.
They returned to Wellington in 1985 from Freeport. Thelma will always be remembered for her love of antiques. She genuinely enjoyed collecting and sharing them.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the VFW Auxiliary, RSVP and had delivered meals for Wellington’s Home Delivered Meals for many years.
Thelma was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Lloyd Popwell.
Her survivors include a daughter Cleta Rogers and her husband Ron Ray Freeman of Wellington; her brother Leo Popwell and his wife LaDell of Wellington; two grandchildren, Sean King and Mickey King; four great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Home Delivered Meals, 1001 Amarillo St., Wellington, TX 79095.
