CHILDRESS – A $3.6 million auxiliary lane project under the direction of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is slated to begin construction on Monday, Sept. 7 with Fuller and Sons serving as the contractor.
Auxiliary lanes are used to comply with capacity demand, maintain lane balance and accommodate speed changes, weaving and maneuvering for entering and exiting traffic. They are non-through lanes used to separate entering, exiting or turning traffic from the through traffic.
In the Hall and Donley counties, there will be nine separate locations where the auxiliary lanes will be added. Advance warning signs will be in place to give drivers notice before entering the construction areas.
When entering a construction zone, drivers are encouraged to reduce their speed, obey all posted signs and get rid of all distractions in their vehicle.
Various lane closures are possible during the span of the construction.
The project is expected to be complete by June of 2021. To keep up with Childress District road conditions, lane closures and projects, follow @TxDOTChildress on Twitter.
