MEMPHIS – The Hall County Picnic on Sept. 19 has been canceled because of COVID-19.
“It saddens me to announce that for the safety of our community, the Memphis Chamber of Commerce will not be renting booths this year at the Hall County Picnic due to the COVID-19 virus,” Chamber Manager Kim Cloyd said.
The day after Cloyd announced this, the Hall County Picnic Association canceled the celebration.
Cloyd posted this on the Chamber’s Facebook page on behalf of Pat and Robert Snider: “After extensive discussion today, it is with deepest regret that the Hall County Picnic Association is cancelling the celebration this year. With the Memphis Chamber of Commerce announcing the cancellation of booths yesterday, the board felt like we had no choice. The COVID-19 has affected so much this year and we were holding out that we might be able to pull it off. Without the booths, we felt there wouldn’t be enough to keep the people on the square all day.
The safety of our community and visitors is the most important. We look forward to 2021, in hopes of less restrictions and a more normal year!”
“Looking forward to bigger and better in 2021,” she said. “Stay safe everyone!”
