CHILDRESS- The Childress Independent School District is expected to discuss its 2020-2021 budget and proposed tax rate during its August 17 meeting.
Superintendent Carl Taylor said he will propose to the school board a balanced budget that includes the lower tax rate.
The proposed budget includes a tax rate of .9664 per $100 valuation, which will come out to be lower than last year’s tax rate, which was .97 per $100 valuation, Taylor said. The total budget represents a 4.4 percent reduction over last year’s budget.
The largest part of the district’s income is based on the average daily attendance, which the board will not know until the school is in session, Taylor said. The average daily attendance last year was 1,015 students.
The school board will have one reading on the budget with the public hearing at the school board meeting prior to voting on it, Taylor said.
