Janet Ruth Montgomery, 74, of Memphis, died Wednesday, August 5, 2020 in Childress.
Viewing took place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. August 7 at the Memphis Church of Christ.
Graveside service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 8 at Fairview Cemetery in Memphis. A memorial service followed at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Memphis.
Arrangements were by Robertson funeral Directors of Memphis.
Janet was born November 21, 1945 in Childress to Ollie Eugene and Bessie Mae Simmons. She attended Lakeview schools before making her permanent residence in Memphis.
Janet was a lifelong homemaker and worked for the Boll Weevil Eradication Program for several years. She had a great love for her farm and enjoyed everything about it. She loved being out at her farm and catering to everyone’s needs who worked there.
Janet, known as “Mimi” to her grandkids, deeply loved her entire family. They were her life and she always loved them BIG! Known as a faithful prayer warrior throughout her life, Janet never met a stranger. She served as a caregiver for so many in her community over the years.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband of many years, Donald Jack Montgomery; her parents, Ollie Eugene Simmons and Bessie Mae Simmons; stepmother, Christine Simmons; and a sister, Lavene Holcomb.
Survivors include her daughters, Stephanie Stone and husband David of Seminole and Jackie Jenkins and husband Daniel of Turkey; her sons, Mat Montgomery and wife Tanya of Memphis and Mark Montgomery and wife Alicia of Wellington; 11 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces nephews and extended family.
