CHILDRESS – Christmas came early for Childress County Christmas Sharing.
The nonprofit organization received a $1,000 check from the Childress Walmart on July 10, Childress County Christmas Sharing Board Secretary and Treasurer Raenell Smith said, adding she is thankful and excited about this early Christmas gift.
“Thank you, Walmart, for this generous gift that will greatly bless families in our community this Christmas,” Smith said. “Our vision is for every child to receive a gift and every family to enjoy the Christmas season. We appreciate Walmart for supporting our vision and helping us reach our goal.”
Because of this gift, Smith said they will be able to provide toys, clothing and food to the less fortunate families in the community that meet the qualifications for assistance during the holiday season.
“We depend on donations, such as the grant received from Walmart, from businesses, civic organizations and individuals,” Smith added. “We also provide coats, caps, toboggans and gloves to make sure children are warm.
This is the second consecutive year Childress County Christmas Sharing has received this grant. Smith said she filled out the form for the Walmart Community grant.
These grants are awarded through an open application process and funded directly from Walmart and Sam’s Club facilities to local organizations in the U.S, according to Walmart’s website. Eligible nonprofit organizations must operate on the local level (or be an affiliate/chapter of a larger organization that operates locally) and directly benefit the service area of the facility from which they are requesting funding. Management at the local facility reviewed the application and made the initial funding recommendations on all submitted requests.
For those who would like to donate to Childress County Christmas Sharing, Smith said monetary donations may be sent to P.O. Box 21, Childress, TX 79201.
