MELISSA — Wellington Class of 2020 baseball standout Adrian Orozco may have missed out on finishing his final high school baseball season but is making up time with the familiar No Creek Cowboys.
A traveling youth baseball team, Orozco has played with many of the same players in past seasons. The Wellington student serves as the pitcher, shortstop and third baseman for the Cowboys.
The team came out 2-2 at the recent Five Tool Texas Summer Showdown played at the the Melissa Complex.
On Sunday, June 28, the Cowboys defeated USA Prime Colorado Pieratt of Littleton, Colo. in a blow-out victory thanks to a third inning boost.
The Cowboys knocked in five runs in the third on its way to a 9-2 victory over USA Prime. No Creek batters contributing to the big inning included Jacob Boatman, Max Hollar and Orozco, all knocking in runs in the inning.
The Cowboys got on the board in the first inning when Joseph Boone grounded out, scoring one run. In the third inning, the Cowboys scored five runs in the offensive onslaught.
Boone led things off on the hill for the Cowboys. He allowed two hits and one run over four innings, striking out two.
Matthew Sapakoff started the game for USA Prime. He went two innings, allowing three runs on three hits, striking out one and walking zero. Braden Schiffner entered the game as relief, throwing three innings and one inning respectively.
No Creek socked one home run on the day. Orozco went deep in the first inning. At the plate Orozco went 2-for-3 to lead the Cowboys in hits.
The Cowboys competed sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Orozco made the most plays with nine. Reid Fritz led USA Prime with two hits in two at bats.
The Cowboys opened the tournament on Thursday, June 25 with a 3-2 loss to Colorado Classic Baseball. Friday, June 26, ZT Elite NTX Gray out of Dallas metroplex took the Cowboys 6-1.
By Saturday, June 27, No Creek Cowboys won 13-2 against Tri-County Express from Fort Worth to lead up to the final game against USA Prime where they took the 9-2 victory.
