CHILDRESS – Childress High School senior softball players Brandy Watson, MaKinzi Freeman and Kassidy Taylor played in an official area senior night game hosted by D-BAT, a baseball and softball training center in Wichita Falls.
“We hosted this to have a final game for the girls since they weren’t able to finish their senior year,” D-BAT Co-owner Ciara Clampitt said. “We wanted to give the girls in our area one last chance to leave it all on the field.”
With their season cut short in March, Watson, Freeman and Taylor put on their Lady Cat uniforms one last time on Friday, June 12 with other seniors throughout the Wichita Falls area. When Freeman took off her jersey after the River Road tournament, she said she never thought she would wear a Lady Cats jersey again.
“It was amazing getting to put it on and represent Childress Lady Cat softball,” Freeman said. “Being on the field with Brandy and Kassidy was the best part of getting to play again. We have been playing softball together for a long time so being out there with them was pretty awesome.”
Taylor said she was glad she had the opportunity to play.
“It was a lot of fun,” Taylor said. “I’m glad I had one last chance to be with my friends and Coach Grimes.”
The feeling was mutual for Coach Amelia Grimes, who said she was happy the girls got their senior night.
“I really appreciate D-Bat putting that game together for all the local seniors,” Grimes said. “It was a great way to wrap things up, and I know Brandy, Kinzi and Kassidy had a lot of fun. I really enjoyed seeing them on the field again, and I’m sure their parents did too.”
For Taylor’s mother Kelly, the game left her “one happy momma,” she said.
“It was great to see Kassidy back on the field one last time with her teammates Brandy and Kinzi,” Kelly Taylor said. “She got to have her senior night they missed out on during the season. I’m going to miss this next year for sure.”
