Childress Elks hosts Memorial Day Service
By Whitney Wyatt/The Red River Sun—
CHILDRESS – COVID-19 couldn’t stop Childress Elks Lodge #1113 from remembering the fallen and paying tribute to service members who lost their lives in service.
Childress Elks Lodge #1113 hosted a Memorial Day Service at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 25 in front of the Joe E. Jones Chapel at the Childress Cemetery.
“The Elks Lodge 1113 was honored to do this service, and will continue to do it,” said Elks Lodge 1113 Veteran Service Chairman Dave Griminger. “The Elks Organization is very pro veteran and feels this is just one more way to give back to the community.”
At the service, Retired Colonel Dennis Cross presented the program, reminding everyone that the men and women who sacrificed their lives for freedom deserve the utmost respect. Kate Ridens sung the National Anthem and Taps.
Chaplin Oscar Garcia led the invocation and benediction while Griminger read the names of veterans who passed away over the past year.
“Thank you to the Childress Elks Lodge #1113 for making sure a Memorial Day Service was held,” said Susan Leary of the Elks Lodge #1113. “My father took great pride in preparing this service each year. It was a bittersweet day to hear his name read amongst those that have passed on over the last year.”
Griminger said Childress Elks Lodge #1113 plans to do a Veterans Day service in November as well.
